When we eat any carbohydrates our bodies have to convert them to sugar before they can be utilised, therefore let us just look at how the body uses sugar. As most of us already know, sugar is used for energy and the truth is because of the amount of carbohydrates and sugar we consume and due to our modern life style our bodies have a surplus of sugars. ( Did you know the average daily amount of sugar consumed is nearly half a pound) However, our bodies have an age old mechanism to deal with this, it produces a hormone called Insulin. One of the functions of insulin is to keep your blood sugar levels regulated, but more importantly the thing we need to understand is, it is also has a STORAGE FUNCTION. When we have a surplus of sugar which our bodies don't need it goes into its storage function. How does it do this? IT CONVERTS ANY SURPLUS SUGAR INTO FAT!!! Fat was originally our bodies survival mechanism against hard times, but luckily for us bad survival times in the form of food shortages seldom happen. SO WE JUST BUILD UP FAT. There is more to it than this, but herein lies the basis of our fat problems. Believe it or not, there is practically none of our modern foods that do not have not some form of sugar added to them. Adding some form of sugar is one of the cheapest methods of flavour enhancement available to food manufactureurs. This makes their products more enticing because we have with few exceptions all developed a sweet tooth addiction. Do you stil wonder why we have a modern weight loss difficulty? No its not the fat we eat, it's the fat we individually create due to this mechanism.
