Glycemic foods and weight loss.
You need to know about glycemic foods if you are interested in weight loss. How does your diet look? is it anything like this?. Breakfast,--- Toast and a quick cup of coffee with possibly 2 spoons of sugar on the run.--- Lunch a quick sandwich. Probably a cup of coffee and biscuits for morning and afternoon break. Then how about pasta for the evening meal? YOU ARE TRYING TO SURVIVE ON CARBOHYDRATES!. Therefore you need to understand about glycemic foods. Find and have a look at a glycemic index food list. Carbohydrates are a lot cheaper and are probably very appealing, particularly sweet and sugary things like cakes, biscuits and things like icecream. That's why they are so popular, but they are also a MAJOR CAUSE OF OUR BEING OVERWEIGHT. Carbohydrates are generally very enjoyable like candies and sweets, but you can see their REAL PRICE on your bathroom scales if you have the courage to look. Carbohydrates have to be converted into sugar before your body can use them.

That is no problem for your body; it just handles the carbohydrates with stomach acid which turns them into sugar. You don't have to be a rocket scientist or university professor to understand what the glycemic index is all about, it's quite simple really. It's about the SPEED at which the carbohydrates are converted into sugar which plays such a big part in our weight loss problems. LOW GLYCEMIC FOODS GET CONVERTED INTO SUGAR AT A MUCH SLOWER RATE. Things like beer get converted to sugar very rapidly, therefore beer's glycemic index is very high. The "GI value", as it has now become known, is the Glycemic index rating system of carbohydrates according to the SPEED with which they raise the blood sugar level after eating. Hi GI foods rapidly raise blood sugar whereas low GI do so at a slower rate. Low GI have benefits for weight control in several ways because they reduce appetite and help control hunger. If you can slow the conversion of carbohydrates into sugar, their is a much greater chance of your body being able to use the sugar and therefore it's less likely to converted it into fat. If you are trying to lose weight I recommend you try and settle for a low glycemic diet. Here is another idea which may help.

Because your body can only use a limited amount of sugar in any given time,(its primary purpose is to produce energy) it has to do something with the surplus. What does your body do with what it can't immediately use?. IT IS CONVERTED INTO FAT and stored for future use. This was a very handy arrangement a few thousand years ago as it helped us survive in the lean times. Over the intervening years when our ancestors were living mainly off proteins from fishing and hunting we didn't have this problem, but now when we are living mainly off carbohydrates,--- it's a far different story.
