Glycemic load and body stress
Further evidence that our diet and glycemic load stress our bodies. A recent study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition revealed a strong association between carbohydrates and macula degeneration. Researchers at Tufts University looked at the quality of vision and diet of over 4000 people between 55 and 80. Specifically they measured not only the amount of carbohydrates they consumed but the type most common in their diets. They found that people who ate starchy carbohydrates were 40% more likely to develop Macula Degeneration. Also they found that people who were eating foods in the top of the glycemic index, sugars etc, were at greatest risk. If you have been reading some of my other pages you will be aware of my attempts to illustrate the risks associated with high carbohydrate and sugar consumption and its effect on weight loss. SUGAR IS VIRTUALLY THE PERFECT CARBOHYDRATE, and places a very heavy load upon our bodies. There has been study after study suggesting high carbohydrate consumption poses a weight loss problem and also health risk. Here we have another example of not only weight loss difficulties but even more serious health care risks associated with our deteriorating diets. It now looks as if our eyesight itself is at risk and studying our diet and its affects would be time well spent.
