Losing Weight
Concerning losing weight, it seems that all fats are not the bad guys we have been led to believe particularly if we are concerned and want to achieve weight loss. I spite of all our attempts at reducing weight and weight gain by limiting our fat intake, all that we seem to have achieved is more overweight and obese people. It hasn’t worked! Otherwise why would you be looking at this page? USA and Australia now have the most overweight populations on the planet, in spite of all the advise about reducing fat intake. Countries like France however, where a considerable amount of the diet is composed of natural fats( Cream cheeses and cream) do not have the same fat problems that other countries have. HOW COME ??? Let us be careful about this though. There are all sorts and kinds of fats. There are what we call good healthy fats like olive oil, Avocados, nuts and fish oil. ( Fish oil needs to be certified as free from contaminants like mercury). Animal fats were once the major fats used and they didn’t appear to contribute very much to an overweight population.

Don’t get caught up in the belief “All fats are bad for you” IT DEPENDS ON THE TYPE OF FAT. In more recent times we have been trapped with a proliferation of “Trans fats” in many of our foods. I find it very interesting that the arrival of these fats appears to have coincided with a lot of our weight loss problems.

You can't bake things like cakes, biscuits or cookies using normal liquid vegetable oils. Trans fats have now replaced the more expensive butter or lard because they are much cheaper. You only find butter in the most expensive products. Trans fats are a financial solution to cheaper foods but I wonder what price we have been paying by increased body weight and our problems of weight loss.
