Your weight loss exercise.
I am afraid that most people working on weight loss exercise don't realise the limitations of their often hard sweaty work. A cover story in TIME magazine tells you "Exercise won't help you lose weight". In the article, a professor from Louisiana state University goes on to say---for weight loss purposes exercise is pretty useless. I appreciate how much your self respect and self esteem are influenced by the way you feel about yourself. I am sure I can do a great deal to assist you to feel good about yourself. Please, do not get the idea I am against exercise. Its an essential part of maintaining a healthy life style, there is however a common misconception about the ability of exercise to help in your weight loss program. To help you understand this, a good way would be to take a look at calories and the way our body is effected by exercise. I have already pointed out elsewhere, exercise alone has little effect on weight loss, so let us take look at fast walking and the amount of calories consumed. If you consult a calorie table you will find that an individual walking briskly for a FULL HOUR at 4 miles an hour (about 6 Km) burns about 250 calories. That's a considerable amount of exercise if you think about it. Yes its a lot easier to think about it than do it. On the other hand if you sat around doing very little, maybe washing up or something far less demanding you would have still burned up around 120 calories in the same time. That hard working sweaty individual has only succeeded in burning up a maximum of 130 more calories than you through her sweaty weight loss exercise for 1 solid hour. On top of that, she will probably now drink an orange juice or an energy drink of some sort (about 100 calories ) or will have a shower and a snack because she is now hungry. One of the problems with exercise is it makes you hungry!. I am afraid all that hard work has probably now gone down the drain like the shower water, achieving little if any effective weight loss. That's a lot of hard work for very little result. Once again I AM NOT AGAINST EXERCISE. It is however by itself NOT the answer to weight loss. It is far too easy to lose any weight loss benefits you may have achieved from exercise.
